The 2008 ASHRAE Handbook (HVAC Systems and Equipment) Chapter 16 covers Ultraviolet Lamp Systems. Maintenance personnel should routinely perform periodic visual inspection of the UV lamp assembly. Typically, a viewing port or an access door window is sufficient. The lamp chamber should have one or more viewports of UVC absorbing materials. Viewports should be sized and located to allow an operating UV system to be viewed from outside of the HVAC equipment.
Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) has grown in popularity with the increased concern about indoor air quality and health. Ductmate now offers an observation door with a double paned window to provide a safe and effective means to view working UV lamp assemblies in air handling units with up to 3” wall/panel thickness.
